FAVORITE GUMS, 100-YEAR HISTORY
That's right folks, our favorite gums has been around over a hundred years. Before that, our ancestors have been chewing tree resin, or sap from Mastic trees, sapodilla tree, spruce trees with beeswax.
You will never believe who got the idea of gum going in the USA?
In 1869 an exiled Mexican former president and general, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna (you got it, the general from the Alamo)brought a ton of Mexican chicle(sap from the sapodilla tree) with him to sell.
He sold it to Thomas Adams to use as a rubber substitute. Adams saw that Santa Anna liked to chew it. So he made a batch in his kitchen, and BOOM! The beginning of our favorite gums.
Beeman's introduced this chewing gum with an ingredient call pepsin to relieve indigestion.
I don't think anyone ever buys this gum because they have acid indigestion.
I know I buy it because it is one of the originals, and I like the flavor.
When I think of clove gum, I am reminded of going to the dentist.
You know that cotton swab that they put in your mouth to numb the skin, so they can give you a shot.
SORRY! But that is what comes to mind, when I think of Clove Gum.
Just like its name, it taste like clove. It's also a good breath freshner.
Teaberry has a little bit of spice and maybe a little taste of mint.
It begin in 1921, and its logo was a carpenter's level that had a slogan that said "IT"S ON THE LEVEL". The package was like wood grain.
Now, the only thing on the package that is original is the teaberries.
