CHEWY CANDIES THAT ARE AMONG THE CLASSICS
These candies have been around so long, that I'm sure my
grandmother enjoyed them(and that's old, she has been gone
many years.
Here are some of the very old fashion types.
<-BIT-O-HONEY
MARY JANES->
The two sweet treats up above are more than likely the oldest of all the penny candy.
Bit-o-honey is made of what it says honey.
Mary Janes believe it or not, does not always come in the wrapper like the one above.
If you go trick or treating on Halloween sometimes you will get
candy that is wrapped in a black wrapper or orange wrapper that
is a Mary Jane.
<-WALNETTOS
SQUIRREL NUT ZIPPERS->
Remember the tv show called Laugh-In. On that program was an old
man walking along in the park, when he comes to an old woman
sitting on a park bench. He stops and looks at her, and says,
"WANT A WALNETTO". The lady jumps up and begins to beat him up
with her purse, and calls him a pervert.
Well the candy in the picture is the Walnetto he was
referring to.
I suppose you are wondering what a Squirrel Nut Zipper is.
Well, before I worked in a candy store I would have said,
"A WHAT?"
A Squirrel Nut Zipper is like a chewy carmel with nuts inside.
There use to be a rock band named the Squirrel Nut Zippers.
I just threw that in, nothing to do with candy.
